What is brand coaching?

I’ve spent over a decade working in the brand industry. The main thing I’ve realised? It’s that ‘brand’ is often misunderstood. That’s why I initially started Honest Folk; to help people put their personality and strategy on paper, and thread this through everything in their business. From messaging and visuals to their marketing, we’ve worked through it together.

I developed my 1:1 sessions to guide you in crafting your unique story, defining what you stand for and getting real clarity over who your audience is and how you’re going to reach them.

The difference between a brand designer and a brand strategist

First things first, I feel like I need to throw this out there. Designing someone’s brand and coaching them on their brand are definitely two different things.

Your brand strategist is the person who helps you articulate what you need from your brand, whether that’s through coaching-style sessions or done for you. Your designer is the person who then brings the visual side of your brand to life.

Hiring a designer is a milestone for a business but nailing the strategic side of your brand is a highly important part of your business strategy. Only when you’ve got clarity around your messaging and defined your personality do you want to be going to a designer, and not every business needs a designer from the outset.

What is brand ‘coaching’?

I work with established businesses on their brand strategy and help them to thread that through absolutely every area of their business. When the first lockdown happened, I had several people coming to me, realising they needed to focus on their marketing. They wanted to do it right from the outset. They didn’t come to me for how they looked, but wanted clarity and guidance on how to form the strategic aspects of their brand themselves.

This was when my brand coaching sessions were born. See, rather than getting a strategist to do it for them, they wanted to be fully involved in crafting their own brand and positioning.

Brand coaching is for business owners who want guidance to position their brand themselves, rather than having a brand strategist doing it for them.

A coach is someone who provides guidance to a client on their goals and helps them reach their full potential.

My role is to make sure that your brand is 100% representative of your business. Realistically, it’s probably going to be you doing a lot of the talking. I’m just there to steer the ship. You’re the one providing the power. My main goal is that you have the confidence to take it forward, adapt it and use it for many years to come.

From your mission, vision and values to your key messages, we’ll get right down to the nitty gritty and figure out exactly what you want to communicate and how you want to communicate it.

Ongoing strategic support

The beauty of coaching is it’s not a one and done job. Your brand evolves, and I’m happy to be right there with you when it does.

Your brand will evolve over time. Many of the foundations we put in place at the very beginning will continue to be relevant, but you will need to revisit some aspects of your strategy a few years down the line when your business grows. Through the good, the bad and the ugly, you can use the work from your 1:1 sessions or even have a few more. The beauty of brand coaching sessions is that you can schedule in an hour or so every 6 months to a year to give you clarity around any specific issues you might be having or to know what to focus on next.

Whether it’s a fresh perspective or you just need a safe space to bounce your ideas around, as your brand coach I’m there to be your teammate.
